Next Club Meeting
Rambler members are advised that the next meeting will be on Tuesday Febuary 7th,
upstairs at the Seaford Tavern and will be starting at 8pm.
2011 Ramblers Xmas Show
This year the Xmas show, which includes presentation of club trophies, will be on the 4th December.
There has also been a change of venue, it will now be held in Old Noarlunga. More details to come.
ARB Silver City 600
This weekend (Nov 5th-6th) will see the first annual ARB Silver City 600 Cross Country Rally held in Broken Hill.
One of our own has decided to try out this new format. Dean Knuckey will be navigated by Jeff "Bones" Loader
in the Red Holden VE Ute.
The event is run using a route book in the same way that the Safari is run which means Dean will need to be told
where to go rather than looking for signs.
After some teething issues during the off road season Dean is looking forward to a clean run in this unique event
& all us Ramblers hope he & Jeff come home with some silverware.

Wynarka Enduro
Last weekend the Summit Racing Team Car Club hosted the 25th Wynarka Enduro and 4 Rambler Cars entered the event.
#316 Brad & Jeff Schulz ended their race halfway through prologue with a rear trailing arm breaking in half.
#569 Patrick Byrne & Nick Galliford made it to 11th outright & 1st in class for prologue but on the 2nd lap had to pull
out with bent steering, a cracked sump & dead alternator.
#89 Paul Adams & Andrew Taylor were running quite well & were heading for a good finish until they had a rear hub
fail on sunday's sixth lap. That finish will come soon boys.
#274 David Adams & Roger Cox were setting good lap times & if it were not for 3 flat tires would have been higher up
in the results. As it was they came home in 9th Outright & 2nd Super 1650 Buggy.
Jeff Loader had swapped driving for a navigating role with #435 Stephen Collett & with a good consistent performance
they finished in 7th Outright & 1st Extreme 2WD.
Apologies for the lack of updates as I haven't been at many events lately. If you have any stories or photos you
could contribute then please get in contact webmaster@ramblerscarclub.org
Tattersall's Finke Desert Race
This year saw 3 crews of Ramblers head up to the red centre for the annual Finke Desert Race.
#501 Jeff & Jai Loader were back to deal with some unfinished business. Previously the Finke has beaten the pairing
but that didn't stop them from returning for another crack.
A fast prologue put them in 43rd overall & 1st in class for Leg 1 of the race.
However disaster struck before the first checkpoint when the front right shocker mounts broke loose & tried to come
through the bonnet bringing an end to their race.
#274 David Adams & Roger Cox made the trek for their & the car's first attempt. Prologue saw them place 3rd in class
& 56th outright just 6 seconds off the quickest Super 1650 buggy.
By checkpoint one on the run down the pair had made progress to be 2nd in class & 42nd outright but soon after their
race also came to an end with gearbox dramas.
#569 Patrick Byrne & Nick Galliford where also along for their first attempt at the Finke with a car which had previously
won it's class at the event. Prologue saw them place in 51st outright & 2nd in class.
During the first leg of the race they made steady progress throught the field to be 22nd outright & 1st in class at
checkpoint 3. Unfortunately the pair were then sidelined just shy of the fourth checkpoint with engine dramas.
The crew at Finke tried to get the car running but called it quits when they discovered the rear suspension bushes were
badly worn.
The next SAORRA round is this weekend (25-26 June) at Mannun & the next AORC round has been moved to Baroota
on the 22-24 July.

2011 Richard Bennett Memorial Parilla Enduro
& Tribute to Brett Ziembinski
Another year & another enduro has passed.
A huge thank you to all who made the event possible by donating their time before, during & after the race.
6 Rambler cars were entered on the weekend & we also had another 4 members navigating for racers from
other clubs.
#569 Patrick Byrne & Nick Galliford were second away in prologue but came to a stop at "The Big Dipper"
when the engine blew a hole in the block & numerous parts escaped.
#444 Dean Knuckey & Dave Rault debuted the new Red VE Ute and after completing prologue, came to halt
during
the 1st lap when the engine seized.
273 Graham Speed & Lisa Cowden were making steady progress around the course but unfortunately had
to pull out after completing 3 laps.
#359 Bob & Michael Adey were the only Sportsman Buggy to enter the event but that didnt stop them from
having a good go. But this sadly came to an end after completing 5 laps.
#132 Pater Affleck & Julie King drove through the sandy conditions to finish the race in 11th outright &
also took home 2nd Pro-Lite Buggy.
#501 Jeff & Jai Loader had an off in prologue coming out of "The Big Dipper" but with no mechanical damage
they continued to finish the race in 6th outright & 1st Performance 2WD.
Jeff also took home the trophy for 1st Rambler Home.
Andrew Suckling was navigating for #435 S Colletta but unfortunately was feeling ill on the weekend & then
his race was cut short when they had to retire on lap 4.
Daniel "Boof" Ziembinski was navigating for #50 Luke Erceg and after the chenowth threw a belt then developed
a mis-fire changed over to #150 Ben Erceg's car & shared the navigating duties with Kelly Erceg. However they
suffered mor problems when the car refused to restart after re-fueling. Eventually they got going but then the floor
began to come off so they called it quits.
Sarah Galliford jumped back in #209 Shannyn Fitzgerald's buggy and despite hitting a fence post on the last
lap which bent the front suspension & ruined a tyre still finished 12th outright & 2nd Super 1650 after Andrew ran
some spares out to get them home.
Anne Galliford jumped in with #97 Trevor Copeland who was driving a twin seater for the first time ever.
They took it easy having not raced the car before and brought it home in 5th outright & 5th Pro Buggy.
Several Ramblers are now looking forward to June long weekend when both the Finke Desert Race & Sea Lake Mallee Rally
are held. Good luck to all who are racing & the next SAORRA round is the ABC Mannum Enduro on June 25th & 26th.

GRKCC Sedan Event Canelled
At the Landowners request, due to continual rain over the the past couple of weeks the event at Sedan on the 9th &
10th April is to be cancelled.
The track is under water in many places, making it unsafe for competition. Trevor Snow actually got bogged well
off the track yesterday (26/3) which would make recovery nearly impossible in some areas.
Louie( landowner) has also directed that there will be no testing on the track untill further notice because of these
conditions. Anyone found out there may face repercussions of some kind from the landowner.

Farewell to Brett
The Onkaparinga Ramblers Off Road members are advised of an opportunity to farewell Brett Alexander Ziembinski,
with his Family and Friends, at a funeral service to be held on Friday 7th January at 2pm in the Heysen Chapel,
Centennial Park.
All our thoughts are especially with Gillian and Mia, as well as both the Ziembinski and Speed families during this
terrible time.
Brett had a long association with the Onkaparinga Ramblers beginning as a youngster alongside his father Alex,
progressing as an accomplished and sought after navigator, a promising career as a kombi gearbox builder under
the watchful eye of Tony Doorne, to finally buying and updating his own competition buggy.
Let us not forget the infectious laugh and the cheeky grin that we knew and loved. Who remembers the lime green
helmet that Brett wore at an event at Mt Templeton? Or the pranks that Brett and Boof got up to after a hard day
setting up the track at working bees.
Let’s all remember the fun loving larrikin who could always find the funny side of any situation and never seemed
to lose his sense of humour.
After the service, a ‘Beer for Brett’ wake will be held at the Blue Swimmer Function Room, Seacliff Hotel, corner
Esplanade and Wheatland St Seacliff.
Brett may you rest in peace, and the memories of you always remain with us forever.
It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of one of the Onkaparinga Ramblers longest serving
club members, Brett Ziembinski. From everyone at the Onkaparinga Ramblers, our thoughts and condolences
go to Gill, Mia, Alex, Chris, Boof (Daniel), Graham and Helen.
RIP Brett

Ivan Schmocker Constructions Sedan Short Course
The Ramblers had 4 cars & 5 driver at the recent Sedan Short course which was the final round of the SAORRA Series.
#274 David Adams & Roger Cox had their weekend cut short when Paul Adams & Andrew Taylor in #2741 broke the
Input Shaft of the gearbox
during their first heat of the weekend.
#132 Peter Affleck & Julie King made it through the mud & dust to finish in 23rd Outright & 8th Pro-Lite Buggy.
#273 Graham Speed & Lisa Cowden also made it through the whole weekdn to finish 4th Super-1650 & 19th Outright.
#569 Pat Byrne & Nick Galliford had two spark plug leads disconnect during the first heat and then a deteriorating
swaybar affected the handling on sunday but Pat still made it to the end in 10th Outright & 1st Performance 2WD.
Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro
The 2010 Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro was held on the 4th & 5th os September in rather
average conditions.
Saturday's Prologue, Top 10 & Dash for Cash was held in the Teagles Quarry and was quite wet & muddy.
Sunday's race was put on hold at the end of lap 1 due to an almost impassable mud section but after some work by the
organisers 2 laps were able to be run later in the day.
569 Pat Byrne & Anne Galliford has an average run in prologue as the Chev engine disliked the water but made it through
to give Pat & Anne a place in the Dash for Cash. A spin on the 2nd lap of the Dash saw the Ford Ranger drop back to 3rd
and then another bad corner meant that Pat & Anne finished 4th.
Lap 1 saw the engine once again dislike the water and then cutout which caused the Ford to become boggedand Pat
decided to throw in the towel before they became too drenched.
274 David Adams & Roger Cox put in a prologue which saw them 2nd in class and starters in the Dash for Cash which they
placed
2nd in. Due to the revised format only the first lap counted for the State Championship and in this Dave managed 15th
outright & 4th in Super 1650. Dave & Roger elected to continue with the next 2 laps and were running at the front of their class
until the last strectch where they rolled into Cowie Creek. Scarily the car was at a 45degree angle with Dave's head in the water.
Luckily both Dave & Roger made it out without injury and will be back at another race.
513 Jeff & Jai Loader put in a very fast drive through the mud to prologue 1st in Performance 2WD and also continued on
Saturday to win the Dash for Cash by almost a full minute.
Sunday saw Jeff & Jai storm through the race to win Performance 2WD in both sections also make it to 7th outright in the
State section & 15th outright in the AORC Section.
Wynarka Enduro
The Wynarka Enduro was held last weekend in cold & slightly wet conditions.
5 Ramblers braved the conditions and started the race but the track took its toll on 3 of them.
316 Brad Schulz & Tyson Brown were out for Brad's second ever drive in a race and his times were improving
with every lap until a flat tyre put a halt to their progress. However a shortage of spares meant that Brad and Tyson
had to make an early exit on sunday's 3rd lap.
274 David Adams & Roger Cox put in a prologue which saw them starting 21st outright & 2nd in class.
After saturday's 3 laps they found some severe cracks in the front end so returned to Thornebuilt to have them repaired
for sunday. Unoirtunately Dave & Roger were out of the race on sunday's 4th lap when they lost drive.
569 Pat Byrne & Nick Galliford prologued 6th outright & first in class and then went on to set the fastest lap of the
weekend on saturday's first lap. On saturday night a broken heim joint & wheel bearing were found and replaced before
sunday's race. After starting 3rd outright & 2nd on the road the rear suspension broke a bolt from it's mountings on the
5th lap and ended Pat & Nick's race.
513 Jai & Jeff Loader went well all weekend in Jai's first race driving. Despite the less than average conditions Jai
got it to the end in 11th outright & 1st Performance 2WD. Well done Jai.
284 Sarah Galliford & Van Nixon kept setting faster lap times as the weekend went on.
Despite an eventful overtaking move by another competitor on saturday, Sarah brought the buggy home with no
major damage and missed out on 1st in class by a mere 3seconds. She did however manage 8th outright &
2nd Super 1650 buggy.
The next SAORRA race is the Sedan Short course on the 18th & 19th of September but the AORC will be in
Millicent on the 4th & 5th of September as well.
Good luck to all Ramblers who are heading to these races.
Glenroy Plains Produce Enduro
The 2nd running of the Glenroy Plains Produce Enduro was held on the 7th & 8th of August and one
Rambler headed down for the race.
The race, held at Greg Gartner's "Moorex" property, was the 4th round of the Victorian Off Road
Champsionship and attracted 38 entries.
#569 Pat Byrne & Van Nixon took the Chevy powered Ford Ranger to the track and came home in 2nd Outright
& 1st Performance 2WD.
Pat is now prepping the car for the next race at Wynarka this weekend and we wish him luck along with all
Ramblers who are racing as well.
Event Committee Meeting
There will be an Event Committee meeting on Tuesday 10th August at Annie’s house, starting at 7.30.
If you would like to be part of the organising team for next year’s event at Parilla, please come along as
you will be very welcome. Enquiries phone Annie 0421 592 052
Hi-Tec Oils Waikerie Enduro
On Friday night the weather was looking like it could make for a wet and wild racetrack but it turned out
to be a good amount to keep the dust down.
Prologue got off to a muddy start but was drying out fast, however 89 Paul Adams suffered another engine
problem during prologue and had to be a spectator for the rest of the weekend.
Sunday's race got off to a good start with good conditions, however 569 Pat Byrne & Anne Galliford had
to stop on the first lap when the power steering ram started to break away from the chassis.
513 Jeff & Jai Loader had some issues during the race but pushed on to finish the race in 31st Outright
& 3rd Performance 2WD.
274 Dave Adams & Roger Cox had entered the State Championship as well as the SAORRA section and
despite a miscalculation which meant they ran out of fuel on the 3rd lap they finished with some strong times
in 13th Outright & 2nd Super 1650 Buggy and also 29th Outright & 8th in class for the SAORRA section.
316 Brad Schulz & Doug Galliford, it was Brad's first time driving and after a muddy prologue Brad ran
some consistent times which gave them a good finishing position of 20th Outright & 2nd Sportsman Buggy.
Well done Brad.
273 Graham Speed & Lisa Cowden drove well to have less than 1 minute between their fastest & slowest
laps and finished 20th Outright & 6th Super 1650 Buggy.
284 Michael Bennett & Nick Galliford had 2 flats during the race but used the 1 hour break to change one
tyre and then a fast change helped by other members in the pits meant that they still came home in 15th
Outright & 3rd Super 1650 Buggy.
Sarah Galliford was navigating with 209 Shannyn Fitzgerald and unfortunately they had gear shifter issues
on the first lap, but some work in the pits kept them going before the gearbox let go on the 2nd lap.
Well done to those that finished & full results are available on the SAORRA site.
Next meeting Tuesday 6th July
The new Event Committee needs to be elected so that plans can be grounded for next
year's event. Please consider who you want on the committee and if you would like to
be part of the team. You may have some fresh ideas and we want to hear them!

Event Co-ordinator
Ramblers racing over the June Long Weekend
The Finke Desert Race was held in Alice Springs and 2 Ramblers entered the race.
#513 Jeff & Jai Loader put in a fast prologue time to be 1st in class & 44th outright.
Jeff & Jai completed the run to Finke while maintaining 1st in class but moved up to 30th outright.
However they came to a halt at the 113km mark on the return leg.
#104 Rick Bramley & Mary Woodward drove a fast prologue to be 4th in class & 28th outright and then
moved up the order on the run to Finke to be 3rd in class & 13th outright.
Rick & Mary kept the pace up on the return run to finish 8th outright & 2ndin class.
The Sea Lake Mallee Rally was also held in Victoria and attracted 77 entries, 3 of them Ramblers.
#284 Michael Bennett & Van Nixon were determined to make it further than the start line this year but it
wasn't an ideal start. A broken CV in prologue was fixed for race day and Michael & Van made it off the
line successfully.
But then the problems began, a slipping clutch, flat front tyre & a mis-fire were encountered before the lunch break.
However after lunch the engine stopped sending spark to the cylinders and couldnt be fixed so Michael was forced
pull out.
#274 David Adams & Roger Cox had replaced the engine after Parilla and were looking for a finish.
Despite a lack of power, which was later found to be debris in 2 cylinders, Dave & Roger made it to the end
in 13th outright & 5th in class.
#569 Pat Byrne & Anne Galliford were looking to back up the impressive result at Parilla and despite losing a rear
quarter panel on lap 3 came home with another class win and 12th outright.
Well done to all Ramblers who were competing and thanks to those who assisted other racers with pit stops, etc.
Good Luck to those heading to the ABC Mannum Enduro this weekend (19th-20th June)
Richard Bennett Memorial Enduro
Photos from the race are now available in the gallery
Richard Bennett Memorial Enduro
The 2010 Richard Bennett Memorial Enduro has been run & won at Parilla.
6 Ramblers had entered the event but only 5 made it to the event.
132 Peter Affleck broke a driveshaft while loading the buggy on the trailer and as such did not race but
still came along to help out on race.
89 Paul Adams wasnt off to a good start when the team was trying to tow start the buggy before scrutineering
but he got it running and made it through prologue but was unable to start on sunday due to more issues.
274 David Adams & Roger Cox had a flash new paint job for the car's 2nd ever race but came to a stop
on the first lap with a conrod trying to escape out the side of the block.
513 Jeff & Jai Loader & Andrew Suckling put in a fast prologue of 7th outright and were running well until
the diff seized in the middle of a corner and ended their race on the 3rd lap.
273 Graham Speed & Max Jenetsky had some dramas on the first lap but got the car going to continue in
the race. After 8 laps Graham & Max brought the Super 1650 home to be 5th in class & 12th Outright.
569 Pat Byrne & Nick Galliford had a fast run in prologue with a huge jump for the spectators which gave
them a starting position of 6th outright. Sunday was a largely fault free run despite a brake pedal which got
worse as the race went on and some economical driving on the last lap.
Pat's fast driving saw him & Nick come home in 1st Outright and 15mins ahead of 2nd place.
Also Brad Schulz was navigating in 316 (Doug Galliford) and after some shifter problems in prologue
they were making progress through the sand before a front shocker bent on lap 4.
The Richard Bennett Memorial Trophy which is donated by David, Glenys & Michael Bennett was won
by Pat Byrne who also took home the 1st Rambler Home trophy & Nick Galliford recieved the
1st
Rambler Navigator Home trophy.
Massive thanks to all the Ramblers who assisted in the setting up, running & packing up of the event
and also thanks to members of other clubs who helped out on the weekend.
Photos will be up soon & results are on the event page.

Further Regulations have been updated & the Entry List as at close of early entries
are available on the event page.

Check out the amazing meals on offer from the Shirmer Shak Cafe at the Parilla event. Pizzas will be available
on Friday night till late and then on Saturday night. Why bring food when there is such a fantastic menu at very
affordable prices available right there at the track.

Happy Mother's Day to the Off Roading Mums
The Ramblers would like to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all the mums who are involved with off roading
and we hope to see you all next weekend at Parilla.

Working Bee
Just a quick note to all that there will not be a working bee this
ANZAC Day long weekend
Baroota Enduro
Last weekend saw the start of the South Australian Off Road season with round 1 of both the SAORRA
Series and State Championship.
There were 5 Ramblers cars racing but unfortunately only 1 made it to the finish.
89 Paul Adams had problems before he had even made it to the track, a lifter became noisy during
friday's dyno runs but Paul persisted anyway. After some work before prologue paul put in a quick prologue
but then rolled in the canyons on lap 1. After landing on his wheels Paul continued on but a cracked oil line
put an end to the weekend on sunday's first lap.
273 Graham Speed & Lisa Cowden were also busy before the race to replace an engine which failed in the
week leading up to the race, despite this they were running consistently before power steering problems
put them out of the race on Sunday's second lap.
132 Peter Affleck & Julie King had swapped out the VW gearbox for a renault to hopefully overcome the
driveline problems which had previously plagued them since the V6 was dropped in.
The gearbox was working well but a failure in the left rear torsion bar caused a premature end on Sunday's
3rd lap.
274 David Adams & Roger Cox debuted the Thornebuilt Super 1650 albeit a bit late.
After a hectic week David arrived in time to do just one lap on Saturday with the sole aim to put kays on the
car. Despite some first run problems Dave & Roger finished all of Sunday's laps with promising times, but due
they only completed 1 lap on Saturday they weren't classed as finishers.
569 Pat Byrne & Annie Galliford had the equipment to deal with with the harshness of the Baroota track and had
a trouble free run despite the occasional off when entering corners a bit hot.
This gave Pat & Annie a 6th Outright placing and
1st Performance
2WD
in both SAORRA & State Champ sections.
Sarah Galliford was also navigating with a couple of non-Ramblers (209 Shannyn Fitzgerald & 263 Shane Waters)
After running 1st in class with Shannynon Saturday, Sarah was left without a ride on Sunday because Shane had
engine problems. However Sarah was offered a ride with 19 Andrew Fitzgerald when his navigator Katie was not feeling
too well. Sarah and Andrew were running 3rd Outright but broke a CV within sight of the finish line.
A big thanks also to all the Ramblers who were not racing but came along and helped out racers not just from our own
club but also
others who were racing on the weekend.

Ramblers at Hyden
Onkaparinga Ramblers had 2 crews compete at the ARB Pinjarra Engineering Hyden 450 in WA.
The recently repainted Jimco (104) of Rick Bramley and Mary Woodward finished a comfortable
2nd in class and 11th outright.
Jeff and Jai Loader (513), after experiencing a few problems, also
finished 2nd in class and 42nd outright. A great effort by our two Rambler crews and to all the SA
teams who made the long trip to the West.
Club Awards

Working Bee 6th, 7th & 8th March
The shed to shelter the club caravan was finished off thanks to a few dedicated club members. We also tidied up
around the small track shed and cleared the rubbish that had accumulated over the past few years. The club
should be around $200 richer when I cash in all the bottles and cans that were collected from past events.
Tyres were also repainted white and more of the Pit and Camping area marked out. We were lucky that the rain
held out till Sunday night when we had to put one of Dale's fire drums in the shearers shed to cook our bbq.
Pat brought his truck to do a bit more testing and gave Cameron a ride. Check out the grin in his photo. A huge
thanks to Jeff Shulz, Dave Rault, Dave Stimson, Trevor & Cameron Nash, Craig Metcalf, Graham Speed,
Pat Byrne and Paul & Max Dagley.
Next Working Bee is the Easter Weekend. It will be all hands on board to set up the signs out on the track and
pit/camping area. If you can help, even for a day, it would be most appreciated.
