Next Club Meeting
The next club meeting will be on the 3rd of August
and will be starting at 8pm.

Hi-Tec Oils Waikerie Enduro
On Friday night the weather was looking like it could make for a wet and wild racetrack but it turned out
to be a good amount to keep the dust down.
Prologue got off to a muddy start but was drying out fast, however 89 Paul Adams suffered another engine
problem during prologue and had to be a spectator for the rest of the weekend.
Sunday's race got off to a good start with good conditions, however 569 Pat Byrne & Anne Galliford had
to stop on the first lap when the power steering ram started to break away from the chassis.
513 Jeff & Jai Loader had some issues during the race but pushed on to finish the race in 31st Outright
& 3rd Performance 2WD.
274 Dave Adams & Roger Cox had entered the State Championship as well as the SAORRA section and
despite a miscalculation which meant they ran out of fuel on the 3rd lap they finished with some strong times
in 13th Outright & 2nd Super 1650 Buggy and also 29th Outright & 8th in class for the SAORRA section.
316 Brad Schulz & Doug Galliford, it was Brad's first time driving and after a muddy prologue Brad ran
some consistent times which gave them a good finishing position of 20th Outright & 2nd Sportsman Buggy.
Well done Brad.
273 Graham Speed & Lisa Cowden drove well to have less than 1 minute between their fastest & slowest
laps and finished 20th Outright & 6th Super 1650 Buggy.
284 Michael Bennett & Nick Galliford had 2 flats during the race but used the 1 hour break to change one
tyre and then a fast change helped by other members in the pits meant that they still came home in 15th
Outright & 3rd Super 1650 Buggy.
Sarah Galliford was navigating with 209 Shannyn Fitzgerald and unfortunately they had gear shifter issues
on the first lap, but some work in the pits kept them going before the gearbox let go on the 2nd lap.
Well done to those that finished & full results are available on the SAORRA site.

Next meeting Tuesday 6th July
The new Event Committee needs to be elected so that plans can be grounded for next
year's event. Please consider who you want on the committee and if you would like to
be part of the team. You may have some fresh ideas and we want to hear them!

Ramblers racing over the June Long Weekend
The Finke Desert Race was held in Alice Springs and 2 Ramblers entered the race.
#513 Jeff & Jai Loader put in a fast prologue time to be 1st in class & 44th outright.
Jeff & Jai completed the run to Finke while maintaining 1st in class but moved up to 30th outright.
However they came to a halt at the 113km mark on the return leg.
#104 Rick Bramley & Mary Woodward drove a fast prologue to be 4th in class & 28th outright and then
moved up the order on the run to Finke to be 3rd in class & 13th outright.
Rick & Mary kept the pace up on the return run to finish 8th outright & 2ndin class.
The Sea Lake Mallee Rally was also held in Victoria and attracted 77 entries, 3 of them Ramblers.
#284 Michael Bennett & Van Nixon were determined to make it further than the start line this year but it
wasn't an ideal start. A broken CV in prologue was fixed for race day and Michael & Van made it off the
line successfully.
But then the problems began, a slipping clutch, flat front tyre & a mis-fire were encountered before the lunch break.
However after lunch the engine stopped sending spark to the cylinders and couldnt be fixed so Michael was forced
pull out.
#274 David Adams & Roger Cox had replaced the engine after Parilla and were looking for a finish.
Despite a lack of power, which was later found to be debris in 2 cylinders, Dave & Roger made it to the end
in 13th outright & 5th in class.
#569 Pat Byrne & Anne Galliford were looking to back up the impressive result at Parilla and despite losing a rear
quarter panel on lap 3 came home with another class win and 12th outright.

Well done to all Ramblers who were competing and thanks to those who assisted other racers with pit stops, etc.
Good Luck to those heading to the ABC Mannum Enduro this weekend (19th-20th June)

Richard Bennett Memorial Enduro
Photos from the race are now available in the gallery

Richard Bennett Memorial Enduro
The 2010 Richard Bennett Memorial Enduro has been run & won at Parilla.
6 Ramblers had entered the event but only 5 made it to the event.
132 Peter Affleck broke a driveshaft while loading the buggy on the trailer and as such did not race but
still came along to help out on race.
89 Paul Adams wasnt off to a good start when the team was trying to tow start the buggy before scrutineering
but he got it running and made it through prologue but was unable to start on sunday due to more issues.
274 David Adams & Roger Cox had a flash new paint job for the car's 2nd ever race but came to a stop
on the first lap with a conrod trying to escape out the side of the block.
513 Jeff & Jai Loader & Andrew Suckling put in a fast prologue of 7th outright and were running well until
the diff seized in the middle of a corner and ended their race on the 3rd lap.
273 Graham Speed & Max Jenetsky had some dramas on the first lap but got the car going to continue in
the race. After 8 laps Graham & Max brought the Super 1650 home to be 5th in class & 12th Outright.
569 Pat Byrne & Nick Galliford had a fast run in prologue with a huge jump for the spectators which gave
them a starting position of 6th outright. Sunday was a largely fault free run despite a brake pedal which got
worse as the race went on and some economical driving on the last lap.
Pat's fast driving saw him & Nick come home in 1st Outright and 15mins ahead of 2nd place.

Also Brad Schulz was navigating in 316 (Doug Galliford) and after some shifter problems in prologue
they were making progress through the sand before a front shocker bent on lap 4.

The Richard Bennett Memorial Trophy which is donated by David, Glenys & Michael Bennett was won
by Pat Byrne who also took home the 1st Rambler Home trophy & Nick Galliford recieved the
1st Rambler Navigator Home trophy.

Massive thanks to all the Ramblers who assisted in the setting up, running & packing up of the event
and also thanks to members of other clubs who helped out on the weekend.

Photos will be up soon & results are on the event page.

Parilla Further Regs & Entry List
Further Regulations have been updated & the Entry List as at close of early entries
are available on the event page.

Parilla Catering
Check out the amazing meals on offer from the Shirmer Shak Cafe at the Parilla event. Pizzas will be available
on Friday night till late and then on Saturday night. Why bring food when there is such a fantastic menu at very
affordable prices available right there at the track.
The Menu is avaible on the event page

Happy Mother's Day to the Off Roading Mums
The Ramblers would like to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all the mums who are involved with off roading
and we hope to see you all next weekend at Parilla.

Working Bee
Just a quick note to all that there will not be a working bee this
ANZAC Day long weekend

Baroota Enduro
Last weekend saw the start of the South Australian Off Road season with round 1 of both the SAORRA
Series and State Championship.
There were 5 Ramblers cars racing but unfortunately only 1 made it to the finish.
89 Paul Adams had problems before he had even made it to the track, a lifter became noisy during
friday's dyno runs but Paul persisted anyway. After some work before prologue paul put in a quick prologue
but then rolled in the canyons on lap 1. After landing on his wheels Paul continued on but a cracked oil line
put an end to the weekend on sunday's first lap.
273 Graham Speed & Lisa Cowden were also busy before the race to replace an engine which failed in the
week leading up to the race, despite this they were running consistently before power steering problems
put them out of the race on Sunday's second lap.
132 Peter Affleck & Julie King had swapped out the VW gearbox for a renault to hopefully overcome the
driveline problems which had previously plagued them since the V6 was dropped in.
The gearbox was working well but a failure in the left rear torsion bar caused a premature end on Sunday's
3rd lap.
274 David Adams & Roger Cox debuted the Thornebuilt Super 1650 albeit a bit late.
After a hectic week David arrived in time to do just one lap on Saturday with the sole aim to put kays on the
car. Despite some first run problems Dave & Roger finished all of Sunday's laps with promising times, but due
they only completed 1 lap on Saturday they weren't classed as finishers.
569 Pat Byrne & Annie Galliford had the equipment to deal with with the harshness of the Baroota track and had
a trouble free run despite the occasional off when entering corners a bit hot.
This gave Pat & Annie a 6th Outright placing and 1st Performance 2WD in both SAORRA & State Champ sections.
Sarah Galliford was also navigating with a couple of non-Ramblers (209 Shannyn Fitzgerald & 263 Shane Waters)
After running 1st in class with Shannynon Saturday, Sarah was left without a ride on Sunday because Shane had
engine problems. However Sarah was offered a ride with 19 Andrew Fitzgerald when his navigator Katie was not feeling
too well. Sarah and Andrew were running 3rd Outright but broke a CV within sight of the finish line.

A big thanks also to all the Ramblers who were not racing but came along and helped out racers not just from our own
club but also others who were racing on the weekend.

Sup Regs & Entry Forms are now available on the Event Page

Ramblers at Hyden
Onkaparinga Ramblers had 2 crews compete at the ARB Pinjarra Engineering Hyden 450 in WA.
The recently repainted Jimco (104) of Rick Bramley and Mary Woodward finished a comfortable
2nd in class and 11th outright. Jeff and Jai Loader (513), after experiencing a few problems, also
finished 2nd in class and 42nd outright. A great effort by our two Rambler crews and to all the SA
teams who made the long trip to the West.

Club Awards
At the March club meeting, the recipients of the 2009 Club Trophies were announced. Congratulations to
Graham Speed - Club Driver of the Year, Mary Woodward - Club Navigator of the Year, and
Jai Loader - Club Junior of the Year. Presidents Choice for 2009 went to Pat Byrne for all the
work he has put in at the the track. Wait until you see the latest jump he has built!!

Membership
Don't forget club membership is due NOW. Don't leave it to the last minute before renewal, particularly if you are
racing this year. Use the link to download a membership form.

Working Bee 6th, 7th & 8th March
The shed to shelter the club caravan was finished off thanks to a few dedicated club members. We also tidied up
around the small track shed and cleared the rubbish that had accumulated over the past few years.  The club
should be around $200 richer when I cash in all the bottles and cans that were collected from past events.
Tyres were also repainted white and more of the Pit and Camping area marked out. We were lucky that the rain
held out till Sunday night when we had to put one of Dale's fire drums in the shearers shed to cook our bbq.
Pat brought his truck to do a bit more testing and gave Cameron a ride. Check out the grin in his photo. A huge
thanks to Jeff Shulz, Dave Rault, Dave Stimson, Trevor & Cameron Nash, Craig Metcalf, Graham Speed,
Pat Byrne and Paul & Max Dagley
.
Next Working Bee is the Easter Weekend. It will be all hands on board to set up the signs out on the track and
pit/camping area. If you can help, even for a day, it would be most appreciated.

Working Bee 6/7 February

We achieved a significant amount of work over the weekend during the Working Bee at Parilla.
We moved the old shed and have started on the footings to rebuild a new one, sorted through
and discarded old and damaged or wrong-sized signs, cleaned out the track/signs trailer,
cleaned out the storage shed, moved the start-finish poles (for the last time hopefully) and set
up the tyre guards around them.  Thanks to Dave Rault, Craig Metcalf, Paul Dagley and Max,
Jeff and Brad Schulz, Graham Speed, Dave Kamm, Dave Stimson and  Pat Byrne.
Jim Coombe, who is happy to be our Director once again, came up for the weekend and was
a great help with the shed construction.  Brad Towner lent us his post hole digger for the
start/finish poles and for this we thank him immensely as the clay was as hard as cement.
Dale McVicar called in occasionally to offer verbal encouragement and to enjoy the company
of our BBQ tea on Saturday night. Ron and Dolores Kamm came up for the day brought up
more cement on Sunday.

The next Working Bee is on the Adelaide Cup long weekend 6/7/8 March. The shed will need
more work done to it, new signs will have to have arrows stuck on them, the start/finish area
needs to be pegged out, spectator areas defined, overgrowth cut back on the track and tyres
repainted. As I have access to an overhead projector, perhaps we may have a movie night on
Saturday or Sunday night. Any suggestions?  If you are free for the weekend or part of it, please
offer some assistance. We have a  lot of laughs while we work so come along for a great weekend.

Ramblers Presentation
To all Onkaparinga Ramblers......
Due to the cancellation of our Presentation Picnic in January, a decision
was made at the February meeting that club trophies will be presented at
the next meeting, Tuesday March 2nd. All club members are invited to
attend to help celebrate the achievements of our 2009 competitors and
as a get-together to prepare for 2010.
Meetings are at the usual place - The Old Clarendon Inn.

‘THE DONALD 500’ OFFROADING IN VICTORIA AT ITS BEST
The Donald 5OO will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of April
(Easter) in 2010. The event will be the Victorian 2010 Championship and
race vehicles from all over Australia will be welcomed. The race was held
last year in a reduced format to keep the track licensed under Cams
insurances so that we could keep the event status current. This year the
event will feature a short course section which will be run on the Saturday
and will allow the cars to do five laps of 40klms enabling the spectators to
have a continuance of cars for the afternoon, especially along the favorite
rail line section. This proved very popular with people this year and the
drivers were equally happy with the format. Sunday will see the second
section of 200klms in the morning and then a hot lap of 100klms in the
afternoon. ORRA will give the relevant start times so as all the townsfolk
and racers families can be aware when and where the vehicles will race.
Friday night will be when spectators can meet and have a good look at
the race cars. It is anticipated that there will be model racecars on a
specially built track which will race over the weekend. Entertainment
such as fireworks, laser show and rides are also going to be another
feature. The club hopes to provide a promotional ride with an Australian
champion driver to a lucky raffle winner who we hope will be a local.
If you require information re family accommodation (renting a home),
fuel, motels or other requirements, drop an email to ‘owee211@gmail.com’ for more info.
There will be a lot more for everyone to enjoy as we get closer but for now,
pencil in ‘The Donald 500’ as your family Easter event and our new club
‘Off-road Racing Australia Inc’ will guarantee you a great long weekend.

Owen Anderson, President, ORRA

Free BBQ at Track Working Bee
The Event Committee have arranged to hold a Working Bee at the Parilla
Track on the weekend of 6th and 7th of February 2010.
The club will supply BBQ meat for Saturday night tea.
There are a number of tasks that need to be accomplished.
The start/finish poles need to be moved, the shed that was taken to the
property last year needs to be erected using steel framework that has been
kindly donated, signs need to be sorted and have reflective stickers put
on them, large signs need to be repainted.
We would like to be able to hold a Working Bee at least once a month up
until the May 15th/16th event so if you can afford the time, PLEASE, the club,
your club, would appreciate any time you can offer.  Please let either me
(mob 0421 592 052) or Trev Nash (mob 0403 895 500) know you are coming
so we can plan the weekend and allocate jobs.

Navigator Data Base
A suggestion has been made that a data base be set up of available navigators.
A number of drivers were looking for a navigator for the last event (Baroota) and
one even had to withdraw his entry as he was unsuccessful in finding someone
to go with him. If you are willing to offer your services as a navigator and happy
to let me pass on your phone number, let me know and I'll add your name to our list.

Baroota Enduro
The October long weekend saw Baroota host the final round of both the SAORRA
series and the SA Off Road Championship.
7 Ramblers had cars at Baroota dn 3 more were navigating for other racers.
151 Paul Adams & Andrew Taylor did not start the Prologue due to an electrical
problem which was fixed for the race but then on the 1st lap the car stopped again
with a suspect broken timing chain.
359 Bob & Ben Adey completed prologue in 20th outright but in doing so had an
input shaft seal break which meant they had to end their race before it really started.
468 Craig Metcalf & Jason Kamm/Casey Nash went through prologue well but on
the 1st lap had to pull out due to a manifold gasket problem.
273 Graham Speed & Dean Johnson/Brett Ziembinski were enjoying the increase
in power after removing the class 6 restrictor plate. After prologing 23rd outright
Graham drove the car to 16th outright and 5th Super 1650 at the end of Sunday's section.
569 Dean Knuckey & Trevor Nash/Dean Johnson were getting quicker with every
lap over the weekend and despite some panel damage to the passenger side came
home in 13th outright and 2nd Performance 2WD for the event.
513 Jeff & Jai Loader put in a blistering prologue of 11th outright and maintained
the fast pace right to the finish line. Jeff & Jai's efforts were rewarded with 8th outright
and 1st Performance 2WD.
104 Rick Bramley & Mary Woodward raced to 9th outright in the muddy prologue
conditions. Rick & Mary were 1 of 7 to also enter the State Championship at this event
and were 1 of 3 to finish all of the laps. For the weekend they scored 5th Outright &
2nd Pro-Lite for the SAORRA Section & 3rd Outright and 2nd Pro-Lite in the State section.
Sarah Galliford was also competing with 209 Shannyn Fitzgerald and they scored 12th
Outright & 3rd Super 1650 in the SAORRA section.
Brett & Daniel "Boof" Ziembinski jumped in with 911 Luke Erceg and after prologing
3rd Outright raced to 2nd Outright & 2nd Pro Buggy in the SAORRA section but decided
not to complete the State Section due to Gearbox & Front End problems.

Wynarka Enduro

Teagle Excavations ARB Pines Enduro
4 Ramblers made the journey to Millicent for the 4th round of the 2009 AORC as well
as the 2nd round of the SAORC.
89 Paul Adams had a good run in prologue but noticed a tappety noise whilst packing
up on saturday night. Unfortunately the noise was a bit more serious than just tappets
and brought Paul's race to an early end on the 1st lap.
374 David Adams & Roger Cox put on a show for the few people along the railway line
during prologue and even managed to bend the front nudge bar on the ground.
David & Roger then put in a great effort during the Dash for Cash to beat Sam Barnes by
just over 1 second. On sunday David put in some good times but due to a flat tyre which
cost time on the second lap was unable to complete all 6 laps within latetime, David &
Roger however managed to finish 13th outright & 1st Sportsman Buggy in the SAORC.
284 Michael Bennett & Sarah Galliford put in a blistering prologue to be 1st in class
33rd outright for the start on sunday. During the Dash for Cash Michael & Sarah were
pressuring for the lead but suffered a bent rim which deflated the tyre and caused them
to pull out in order to save the car for sunday. Michael drove to 9th outright & 1st Super
1650 in the SAORC but then suffered a broken driveshaft on the 5th lap so was unable
to complete the AORC section.
104 Rick Bramley & Mary Woodward prologued a very impressive 19th outright & 1st
Pro-lite buggy and then continued with some close racing during the Dash for Cash and
came out as winners after the two laps. Rick & Mary raced through sunday and finished
4th outright & 1st in class for the SAORC section, they then continued to do all 6 laps
despite not being registered for the AORC but finished 13th outright & 2nd Pro-Lite.

Wynarka Enduro
The 6 Ramblers who entered the Wynarka Enduro had a good finishing rate with4 of them
finishing and taking home trophies .
89 Paul Adams & Eric Schimd since Paul was unable to attend on Saturday Eric drove
the car for him and unfortunately only completed 1 lap before suffering gearbox problems
513 Jeff & Jai Loader set a blistering pace in prologue for 12th outright but their race
came to an end on Sunday's 3rd lap.
106 Kim Siegel & Jeff Newcombe were having their first attempt at the Wynarka track
and despite a hairy moment in prologue they came home 10th outright & 3rd in Pro-lite.
374 David Adams & Roger Cox/Paul Adams were having bad problems with steering
feedback which was taking it's toll on David so sunday saw a combined effort from all three
to get the car home. Their hard work scored them 8th outright & 1st Sportsman Buggy.
569 Dean Knuckey & Dean Johnson/Trev Nash ran consistent times all day and despite
a fuel tank drama which was rectified on saturday night they came home 6th ouright &
1st Performance 2WD.
284 Michael Bennett & Van Nixon/Sarah Galliford were determined to finish, a 14th outright
in prologue meant that Michael & Van passed several cars on saturday to sit in 3rd outright overnight.
Sunday saw Sarah jump in the car and they continued to maintain the fast pace to finish in
2nd outright & 1st Super 1650.

ABC Mannum Enduro
3 Ramblers were among the 24 car field last weekend at Haby's Place, Mannum.
673 Graham Speed & Max Jenetsky had to pull out on the 3rd lap on Sunday due
to an issue with a rear trailing arm.
72 Nigel Dunn managed a 6 out the 8 laps on sunday before retiring with rear wheel
problems.
374 David Adams & Roger Cox had steering problems which they tried to fix on the
3rd lap on sunday, but 2 laps later they withdrew from the event with the same issue.

Hi-Tech Oils Waikerie Enduro 2009
12 Ramblers were among the 74 strong field of cars at Waikerie last weekend.
#132 Peter Affleck & Julie King made it to the main jump in prologue but then
were forced to pull to off the track due to a gearbox problem.
#359 Bob & Ben Adey prologued in 49th outright & 2nd in class but came to a halt
on their first lap with issues in the adapter plate area.
#105 Paul Dagley & Steve Rault slid through prologue to 61st outright but also had
to pull out of the race on lap 1 due to misfire problems.
#284 Michael Bennett & Sarah Galliford didnt even make an inch in prologue due to
a boken output shaft on the start line. Michael went back to Adelaide overnight to
fix the problem and returned to start the race on Sunday. After making many
positions on the first lap the other side of the gearbox broke on the start of lap 2.
#513 Jeff & Jai Loader
were among the many who only completed one race lap,
after prologuing in 41st outright and 2nd in class the Navara developed engine
troubles during the race.
#72 Nigel Dunn
made his way through the slippery prologue but his race came to
a premature end on lap two due to mechanical problems.
#569 Dean Knuckey & Trev Nash/Dean Johnson caused a bit of interest bringing
out the ex Harley Cooke Ford Ranger and came unstuck on the 3rd lap when the truck
fell over in a sandy section of the track. Unfortunately the damage was enough that
they could not continue the race.
#374 David Adams & Andrew Taylor were happy to out prologue David's brother but
had engine dramas during the race. After having to pull over a couple of times he
managed a finish in the SAORRA Section, 28th outright & 2nd in class, but DNF'd
during the final lap of the State Championship.
#673 Graham Speed & Max Jenetsky completed their SAORRA race in 26th outright
and 1st in class.
#468 Craig Metcalf & Jason Kamm/Casey Nash went through the weekend and
completed the SAORRA section in 19th outright and 3rd in class despite the car running
rough towards the end of the race.
#89 Paul Adams is on a roll, two consecutive race finishes. However this race
wasn't without drama, a flat right-front tyre on the first lap and then another on
the left-rear during the final lap. Paul still continued on to finish 18th outright in
the SAORRA Section & 23rd outright in the State Championship.
#104 Rick Bramley & Mary Woodward were keen to defend their win from last year
but had to settle for 3rd in the SAORRA section behind 2 Pro-Class cars and 5th
outright in the State Championship section. This meant that Rick & Mary took home
the Pro-lite honours for both SAORRA & State sections.
